Moffat Dunlap's Legacy in Country Property Real Estate

The brokerage was founded in 1972 by Mr. Moffat Dunlap. Mr. Dunlap was a 20-year member of the Canadian Equestrian Team, a gold medalist at the Show Jumping World Championships and a founder of The Country Day School in King City. Mr. Dunlap founded Moffat Dunlap Real Estate Limited as one of the first brokerages specifically focused on selling the finest country properties in the Greater Toronto Area. Marketing of exceptional Georgian Bay Retreats followed shortly thereafter. Our Founder’s passion for real estate, horses and Georgian Bay continues in our work today.  We are a focused firm that continues to proudly represent our clients and their exceptional properties.

Our Founder

Mr. Moffat Dunlap was a true gentleman and a leader in the rural community surrounding Toronto. In addition to many country estate sales, Mr. Dunlap also had the privilege of leading large real estate projects including the land assembly for Canada’s Wonderland to advising the Koffler family on their historic donation of a vast protected wilderness on the Oak Ridges Moraine now known as the Koffler Scientific Reserve at Jokers Hill. The Koffler Scientific Reserve has become a nationally recognized site dedicated to cutting-edge research, education and public outreach in ecology and biodiversity. Mr. Dunlap’s real estate expertise also assisted with the creation of the Cawthra Mulock Nature Reserve in King plus Peggy’s Woodlot in Newmarket, the creation of the King Campus of Seneca College, land Assembly for Magna International’s world headquarters plus countless others. Over his career Mr. Dunlap was responsible for handling many of the largest real estate transactions in King Township, Caledon and Hockley Valley.

Generous with his time and expertise, Dunlap served as chair of Canada’s jumping team at the 1984 Olympic Games, President of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Director of the Canadian Horse Council, the Canadian Horse Shows Association, The Canadian Pony Club, plus being on the Board of Equine Guelph.

Mr. Dunlap was an integral part of the Canadian equestrian community. His contributions to show jumping extended far beyond international competition. Moffat was twice inducted into the Jump Canada Hall of Fame, as both a team member and as an Individual Builder

Moffat was also a co-founder of The Country Day School, an independent school in King City, Ontario. Moffat was a generous and active supporter of the Princess Margaret Hospital, the Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation, and co-chairman of The York Region Police Appreciation Committee. The establishment of the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy & Astrophysics at the University of Toronto was also a point of great pride.

Mr. Dunlap awarded an honourary doctorate from the University of Toronto for his community service and philanthropy.

John M. Dunlap

Since 2000, the firm has been led by John Dunlap. John holds an MBA from Northwestern University and Bachelor of Commerce from Queens University. John serves on the Board of Governors of St. Andrews College, Canada’s largest all-boys boarding school and St. Anne’s School, a newly founded all-girls school. John serves on the Campaign Cabinet for Mental Health at the University Health Network – Canada’s leading research hospital network. John is a Past President of The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Past Chairman of the Royal Horse Show and has served on numerous non-profit boards of directors in both Canada & The United States. John has negotiated many of the top rural property in King, Caledon and Mono Township including the 680-acre Galten Farm in King, Hawkridge Farm in Caledon which hosted the Royal family, the 477-acre Southdown Farm in Caledon, Stoneridge Hall on the Escarpment overlooking Toronto, and Blithe Hill which is one of Hockley Valley’s most well-known country properties with its crystal clear streams, ponds and majestic valleys.
